Culture and Art influence Design

Objective of the research

Harmony, the concept of Chinese art, life and civilization. The Yin/Yang theory, which unifies both opposing and complementary force, is creation given balance. It is also the discipline of the Chinese poster. In China, people are as aware of harmony as oxygen, evolution or gravity. It is the natural way to think and believe, as unquestionable as water to a fish. But, how about the people beside Chinese? If they just consider it as a symbol or icon. Is it reasonable?

Therefore, the major objective of this research is concerned with the communicative effectiveness in Yin/Yang theory of the Chinese poster in an international environment. In it, I will attempt to analyse Yin/Yang theory of the Chinese poster. Also, I will make it easily understandable, and for the benefit of an international audience, explain the meaning of the layout and graphic elements used in Chinese posters.

Urban Surrealist: Sculptures

Works inspired by the migrant workers in Beijing, brought out the phenomenon of urban surrealism as a creative blueprint, thus inspiring the artist think about the rapid development of the city behind, brought out the city funny images. The artist hopes that the artwork will bring out the heavy spiritual cost paid by the migrant workers in the process of urban rapid development, and lead the audience to reflect on the surreal images brought by the rapid development of the city.

城市睡工：作品靈感來自於北漂打工族的農民工，所帶出的城市趣怪現象作為創作藍本，從而啟發創作者思考城市高速發展背後，所帶出的城市趣怪影象。創作者希望作品帶出農民工對城市高速發展進程中，所付出的沉重精神代價；以及引領觀衆對城市高速發展背後，所帶來的超現實影象，作一點點啟發性的反思。

The artwork was inspired by the abandonment of “shared bicycles”, which led to the problem of rubbish in the country parks. The creators hope to use this artwork to let audience to rethink the environmental protection of the country parks in Hong Kong and to make some inspiring reflections on the disaster caused by the "shared bicycles".

“共享單車”災難：作品靈感來自於廢棄“共享單車”，引發出郊野公園廢棄垃圾問題。創作者希望藉此作品，去引發觀眾重新思考愛謢香港郊野公園；以及對“共享單車”所帶出的災難，作一點點啟發性的反思。

Playground, Hong Kong 2017

Part 1 Old District Textures
In this artwork, I want to share with you the OLD DISTRICT TEXTURES in a city like Hong Kong, we tend to forget what basic means and often get swallowed by the constant changes surrounding us. Therefore, I want to showcase the basic forms, basic materials, basic colours, even the simple imagery in my Drawings.

痕跡：嘗試用基本材料，簡約色系，甚至簡單圖像將香港舊區的獨特痕跡展現在畫布上。

Part 2 Childhood Happy Memories

In this artwork, it shows that some of my ideas / concepts can be represent and bring out the childhood happy memories. And in my creative process, it has three major ideas as following: Amusement, Aftertaste and Share.

“Art / Design is not the end goal. It is simply a tool to help us connect to our communities and make a difference.” (Poynor, 2006)

Through this work of making, researching, theorizing. I have come to understand that the Best Memories: Childhood happy recollection is about me as much as the perception of the Hong Kong Kidult in 70’s, and my own work to reclaim and represent concepts of knowledge and art in the world.
